    Job Description:

    - Help start games and keep games going.

    - Represent Hustler Casino in a professional manner by promoting an atmosphere of respect and courtesy toward our customers and staff both in and out of games.

    - Contribute to Hustler’s business goals of superior customer service and player acquisition and retention.

     

    Public Relations:

    --As a prop you first and foremost a representative of the casino and a player second.

    --Be friendly and helpful to new players and try to learn the names of regulars.

     

    Communicate with floor and service staff:

    1. If someone is trying to get service or chips and seems to be having a hard time, try to help them. Ask the floor staff for help or try to find someone else to help.
    2. If you see a player abusing a dealer or another player, quietly get up and speak to the floor staff. Do not try and fix the problem yourself.
    3. If you see a player who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol inform the floor staff. The floor will determine if that player will be cut off and inform food and beverage staff.

     

    Promotions:

    --You are required to know and communicate to guests about current and upcoming promotions.

    --You are required to use your player’s card for poker atlas while seated in any game.

    --You are eligible for a player’s card for internet access and tournament entry, but employees do not acquire hustler points.

    --You ARE eligible to win a jackpot or table share of a jackpot.

     

    Identity of House Players:

    • You are required to have your badge in your possession while you are working.
    • If anyone asks directly or indirectly, you must tell them that you are a prop player.

     

    Games Required to Play/ Protocol:

    --The first priority is to play in the highest level game as indicated by your job classification. If your services are not needed in that game, you are required to play in a lower level game if requested to do so by floor staff as follows:

    A Props: $50/100 props are required to assist in the $25/50 limit hold’em, $500/$2,500 and $300/$1,000 No Limit Hold’em games along with $100/$400 Pot Limit Omaha. If there is a lower level house player that is also in that game, the $50/100 props will have the first option to exit that game when it is full.

    B Props: $25/50 props are required to assist in the $8/16 limit hold’em, $300/$1,000 and $100/300 no limit games. If there is a lower level house player that is also in that game, the $25/50 props will have the first option to exit that game when it is full.

    C Props: $8/16 limit HE, $4/8 limit HE, $50-$100 No Limit, $4/8 limit Mix or 4/8 Big O.

    --You are required to play in games as short as five handed but not games with four or fewer players. If there are 5 players or chip stacks at the table, generally props should keep playing because that game is still technically 5 handed.

    --However, you should not make it obvious that if a game gets short that you are the cause of it breaking, especially if it is the last remaining game at that level. You may want to suggest that the players take a short break to see if any more players are available.

    --Props are required to be visible and available on the poker floor. Look for games that need assistance and fill those seats, do not wait for games to be short-handed or out of action.

     

    Starting New Games:

    • Be prepared with chips ahead of time. Being present encourages the game to start.
    • Be the first player at the table, not the last. Anticipate the game starting ahead of time.
    • Seating for new games is first come first serve. Once the game begins and a player wants your seat, you are not required to move until it is your turn to exit the game. However, if it is to accommodate a player that cannot see from another seat, you should give every consideration to their request.
    • Please use good judgement and consider what is best for the game.    

     

    Selling chips: Never sell chips to other players:

    1. It is against company policy.
    2. There are regulations about handling cash. The floor staff is trained to handle it correctly.
    3. If you happen to take a counterfeit bill, it is your loss.
    4. When the floor staff or chip runner brings chips, some players will tip them. You don’t want to take away a potential source of income from your fellow employees.

     

    When a game stalls or is shorthanded:

    --Every courtesy is given to a prop player to put them in the best position to play. Facilitate the continuation of the game by posting a blind or by getting dealt in as early as possible.  Use good judgement to make sure that the customers are not frustrated because the game is at a stop.

    --Stay at the table and do not cash out your chips. You MUST play if there are two empty seats. Whenever possible encourage the game to restart.  Ask floor to call back missing players and advertise available seats.

    --Never try to break a game. Even if there are empty seats in the main games and the must-move is shorthanded, do not point out open seats to the other players at the table.

     

    Playing with other props-

    -- If there are two or more house players in a game, the player closest to the blind is the first to get up when the game is full. That player may play additional hands until it is time for their blind and then exit the game when a customer is waiting. You may not play an extra round.

    -- If you are in a game toward the end of your shift, quietly inform the floor staff what time you will be clocking out so they can determine the appropriate action to take to save the game. This is especially important if you are in a must-move game. (8x8 situation)

    --Communication with other props is essential and necessary for creating a good experience for the guest and a fair team atmosphere with your coworkers.

     

    Behavior:
    --While you need to protect your rights at the table, try to avoid any confrontations. It is up to you to help protect the integrity of the game; however, you should be part of the solution, not the problem. It is expected that every house player use good judgement and common sense when interacting with players and staff.

    --Avoid casino gossip with customers and coworkers. You may have some inside information but it is not your job to tell customers about it. Avoid negativity.

    --Do not ask the floor staff or a dealer for a discount on the collection when the game is short-handed. However, customers are allowed to ask for reductions.

    --Do not agree to play “soft” with any other players including other house players. Any indication or appearance of collusion or favorable treatment does not lend confidence to the integrity of the game.

    --Never borrow or loan money to anyone in the casino.

     

    Breaks:

    --You must clock out for a 30-minute meal break. You should do this after the first 2 hours of your shift, but no more than 5 hours into your shift.  Try to take your meal break when you are not needed in a game.

    --Inform the floor staff when you leave the poker area and when you return from your lunch break.

    --You should not miss your blind while other players at the table have missed blinds.

    --If you need a restroom break, and the game is extremely short, inform the other players that you will be back very shortly to continue play.

    --You should not ever take a smoking break when it endangers the continuity of the game. Smoke breaks should occur; before or after work, during your lunch or 10min breaks, while you aren’t in a game, or as a last resort: when you are in a full game with no other walkers.

    --Take all other breaks as required by law. (10 minutes paid break for every 4 hours worked)

     

    Clocking in and Out, Vacations:

    --Any deviation from the schedule needs approval by shift manager ahead of time.

    --Hustler does not require props to sign in and out daily, however props MUST check in and out daily with the floor staff at the beginning and end of their shift.

    --You may not clock out early in order to stay in a good game. If for any reason, you clock out before your shift is over you may not play until your normally scheduled shift is over. You should obtain permission from the shift manager to clock out early and then inform the floor staff that you are not going to be available.

    --Props are not allowed to work overtime on the clock. You may stay and play on your own time if you wish; please inform floor staff that you are playing off the clock.

    --Any missed punches must be brought to the attention of the shift manager as soon as possible and a time correction sheet must be filled out.  Check your time card weekly for errors.

    --If you have been given direct permission by the shift manager to leave early please tell your fellow props and floor staff. 5.75 hours is the legal maximum daily work hours without taking a lunch break.

    --Communicate with supervisors your vacation needs as early as possible especially if you are having financial troubles or do not have vacation hours available.

     

    Meals:

    --You are entitled to one food comp of up to $17.00 during your shift if you are an $8/16 prop or above. This must be taken in a single meal. You cannot eat two $8.50 meals at different times.

    --If the server does not know you are a prop, quietly inform them when you order.

    --Please keep your area clean to promote a clean gaming area and workplace.

     

    Cellphone and device usage:

    • While the use of electronic devices at the table is not strictly forbidden, remember that you are being paid to play and be an active participant in the game.
    • Limit personal usage on your electronic devices, texting players about the game is encouraged.
    • When you spend an inordinate amount of time doing anything but playing poker, players tend to interpret that as meaning you are not interested in the game.
    • Props should ensure that the players have a positive experience and Hustler management requires props to be fully vested and attentive to the game.

     

    Qualification Requirements:

    • Extensive knowledge of Poker rules
    • Must be able to provide their own money to play.

     

    Education/Formal Training:

    • HS Diploma or GED

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    • Must be able to understand the hands associated with poker.

     

    Language Skills:

    • Must be able to communicate in English
    • Bi-Lingual Spanish or Asian languages a plus

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    • Must be able to Obtain and Maintain a Gardena City work Permit

     

    Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

     

    Work Environment:

    • Fast-paced, 24-hour work environment
